Aretha Mathis' Obituary
Aretha Mathis, 90, of Nashville died Tuesday July 30, 2013 in Lakeland Villa Convalescent Center.
She was born on October 7, 1922 in Berrien County to the late William Franklin Roland and the late Jane Ray. She was a homemaker and member of Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church. She was the widow John Duncan "D." Mathis and also preceded in death by 2 sons: Carlton Mathis and Eugene Mathis.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Linda Gail Gillis of Nashville and Barbara (Billy) Warren of Nashville; 2 sons: Lamar (Miffin) Mathis of Quincy, FL and Darrell (Shirely) Mathis of Nashville; 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday August 3,2013 at 10 AM in the Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Hughes officiating. Interment will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 PM.
