Obituary

Arturo Cortez, 85, of Nashville, died Sunday May 9, 2021 in the Tift Regional Medical Center.

He was born December 17, 1935 in Bejucos, Mexico to the late Fidel Cortez and the late Atanacia Tavira. He worked in agriculture, of the Roman Catholic Faith and was preceded in death by his wife: Engracia Pompa Cortez.

He was a loving husband, father and he adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He came to the United States to provide a better life for his children. Throughout his journey, he fell in love with Nashville, GA and decided to make this his home. Through hard work, he was able to fulfill his dream of giving his children the best life. He was a dedicated father who taught his children the value of hard work, respect for others and to become good productive citizens of this community he so loved. He was self-educated with no formal education.

He is survived by 4 daughters: Graciela (Javier) Rivera of Arlington, TX, Atanacia (Alfredo) Acevedo of Haines City, FL, Victoria (David) Rodriguez of Haines City, FL and Consuelo (Rich) Varn of Nashville; 4 sons: Fidel (Felipa) Cortez of Arlington, TX, Israel (Hope) Cortez of Lake Park, Guillermo  (Deborah) Cortez of Nashville and David Cortez of Nashville; 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday May 14, 2021 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Boykin officiating. Interment will follow in the Nashville Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Thursday from 6 to 8 PM.
