Obituary

Barbara Purvis Benson, 77, of Alapaha died Wednesday November 30, 2016 in Tift Regional Medical Center.

She was born September 15, 1939 in Willacoochee to the late William Henry Spikes and the late Frances Garren Spikes. She was a homemaker and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Nashville Ward. She was the widow of H. D. Purvis and was also preceded in death by a son: Craig Purvis; and 2 brothers: Carroll Spikes and Wendell Spikes.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Rhonda (Steve) Dixon of Alapaha and Tracy DeBoyd of Alapaha; a son: Michael (Betsy) Purvis of Alapaha; 2 sisters: Katherine Moore of Alapaha and Bernice Wilkerson of Tifton; 5 brothers: William H. Spikes, Jr. of Douglas, Walter Spikes of Nashville, Winston Spikes of Ocilla, Tommy Spikes of Nashville, and Teddy Spikes of Enigma; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday December 2, 2016 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Bishop Michael Spikes and Mr. Tommy Spikes officiating. Interment will follow in Glory Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service.
