Obituary

Beatrice W. "Bea" Allen passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018, at Berrien Nursing Center. She was born on May 12, 1927, in Lakeland, Georgia, as the daughter of the late Walter E. Williams and Rency Cleo Kirkland Williams. She is preceded in death by one brother: Rufus Williams and three sisters: Myrtice Drawdy, Lois Burnes, and Mary Anderson. She is survived by her daughter Mary Johnston, numerous nieces and nephews, and her adopted family, Joe and Amelia Matthews, Josh Matthews, Dr. Caleb Matthews, and Teal Matthews.

Bea's hard work ethic and strength is a true reflection of the cultural icon "Rosie the Riveter" as she welded ships on the East Coast during World War II. Her hard work and determination were then continued at Clayton State University where she was the Administrator of the Food Service Division. In this position, she oversaw the catering of many important university events that were under the direction of Dr. Harry S. Downs, the University President, of whom she was good friends with. Bea ultimately retired from Clayton State University after many years of dedicated service to its faculty, staff, and students.

Bea Allen has left an everlasting mark on those who knew her through her joyful smile, contagious laughter, friendliness, work ethic, faith, and strength. She will be remembered for her devotion to the First Baptist Church of Nashville, Georgia. Although Bea held many occupations throughout her life, she will be remembered most by being a devoted caretaker, a phenomenal cook, and a fabulous baker (namely of chocolate and coconut cakes). Bea truly made the best of every situation she was handed in her long life. She will truly be missed and loved by all that had the privilege of knowing her vibrant spirit.

Bea's family would like to thank the staff of Georgia Home Health Services and Berrien Nursing Center for their love, compassion, and care for our beloved Bea.

A celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, January 3, 2019 beginning with visitation at Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville, Georgia at 10 AM. Funeral services will follow at 11 AM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home  with Dr. Keith Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in the Nashville Memorial Gardens.
