Obituary

Elizabeth Chandler "Beth" Carter, 82, of Nashville, passed away on Sunday April 2, 2023 at the Fellowship Home in Nashville.

She was born February 27, 1941 in Jenkins county (Millen) to the late Samuel Reid Chandler and the late Elizabeth Garner Chandler of Adel. A graduate of the Class of '59 at Cook High School, she attended the University of Georgia where she was a Georgette in the Red Coat Band. In 1963 she married Hanson Rawlins Carter of Nashville and enjoyed 57 years of marriage.

A large part of her working life was spent in the legal profession. In 2002 she was appointed Chief Magistrate Judge for Berrien County where she served for 19 years until her retirement in 2021.

She had an overwhelming love for her friends and family and especially her two grandchildren, Carter and Sara Elizabeth.  She enjoyed laughing, gardening, cooking, and serving her church and her community.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hanson and her niece, Elizabeth Ratcliffe of Amagansett, NY. She is survived by her daughter Chandler (Trey) Haydon of Atlanta, two stepchildren, Hanson (Linda) Carter, Jr. of Augusta and Cindy White of Williamsburg, KY; two grandchildren, Carter Haydon and Sara Elizabeth Haydon of Atlanta; her sister Cecelia (David) Ratcliffe of Atlanta; nephew Andrew (Holli) Ratcliffe of Athens, GA; Axel Ratcliffe of Amagansett, NY; Y.F. Carter, III (Rebecca) of Valdosta; Margaret (Tim) McMillan of Enigma; special great nieces Catherine, Sarah and Margaret Carter, and many other wonderful nieces and nephews with whom she loved and enjoyed spending time.

The family would like to recognize Fellowship-at-Home for their service and especially thank Fredia Dales for her wonderful care and friendship.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 5, 2023 at 2 PM at the Nashville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Addington and Rev. Bob Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
