Betty Faye Odom, 89, passed away March 19, 2025, at Fellowship Home of Nashville surrounded by family and friends. She was born on March 7, 1936, to Phoenia Mathis Goodin and Joe Goodin in Berrien County, Georgia.
She attended Poplar Springs School and later graduated from Nashville High School in 1954. She married the love of her life, Randall "Sonny" Jesse Odom on the front-porch of her parents' house in Nashville on Friday night, June 8, 1956. Together they raised three children: Kay, Rita, and Randy. Later in life, when she returned to full-time work, she was the food service manager at various schools in Berrien County, retiring in 2008.
She was a person of remarkable faith, giving her life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 18, 1964. She was a faithful member of Trinity Holiness Church for over 60 years, teaching Sunday School and regularly feeding the out-of-town pastor or visiting evangelist. She was known throughout her church, family and community as a wonderful cook and hostess. She was known for her red velvet cake and creamed corn. She and Sonny spent many of their summer days picking and putting up vegetables to feed their church, family, and community.
She loved her family and prayed faithfully for each of them daily. She was a fighter, having beat cancer twice in the 1990s. She enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, and shopping until she dropped.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Phoenia and Joe Goodin and brother Joe Ed Goodin. She is survived by her husband, Sonny Odom; three children: Kay (Eddie) McKie of Abbeville, Georgia, Rita (Steve) Whilden of Nashville, Georgia, and Randy (Toni) Odom of Moultrie, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Philip McKie, Joel (Candice) McKie, Caleb (Ashley) Whilden, Stephen (Brandy) Whilden, Brandon Odom, Brian Odom, and Brentley Odom; five great-grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, Harrison, Blythe, and Samson. She is survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Webb and her brother-in-law Wesley Odum and her special friend Linda McConico Hall.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Holiness Church in Nashville on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Freddie Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville, Georgia.
