Betty Lois Smithwick, 86, of Nashville, died Thursday February 3, 2022 at SGMC in Valdosta.

She was born May 28, 1935 in Greenville, FL to the late James Randolph Gray and the late Abbie Lee Murphy Gray. She was a secretary with Blanton & Griffin Insurance Co and faithfully served with her husband in the ministry for many years. She was a member of the Nashville Church of the Nazarene and attended Valdosta Church of the Nazarene. She was the widow of Rev. Jack Brannen Smithwick who died in 2019. She was also preceded in death by a daughter: Carol Smithwick Scattergood; 2 sisters: Mary Elizabeth Giles and Martha Gray Wilkerson; 2 step brothers: James Hamilton and Bennie Hamilton.

She is survived by her son: Jack B. "Chuck" Smithwick, Jr of Nashville; foster daughter: Martha Humphries of Waycross; sister: Ruth (Steve) Chandler of Clarksville, TN; 2 brothers: Charles Hamilton of Gordon and Raymond (Gloria) Hamilton of Destin, FL; step sister: Carolyn Hamilton of Moultrie; step brother: Jimmy Hamilton of Moultrie; grandson: Jason (Christina) Montgomery of Springfield, IL; 3 foster grandchildren: Christy, Jessica and Elizabeth; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday February 7, 2022 at 11 AM in the Nashville Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Royce Wilkerson officiating. Interment will be in the Murphy Community Cemetery in Colquitt County. Visitation is Monday one hour prior to the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Nashville Church of the Nazarene.
