In Loving Memory of Bonnie (Luke) Russell
October 19, 1937 – July 14th 2026
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Bonnie Russell.
Bonnie was born on October 19, 1937, in Lenox, Georgia, to the late Willie and Annie Luke. From the very beginning, her life was rooted in faith, family, and kindness.
She grew up poor but worked hard and never complained or made excuses.
She had a good adventurous and eventful life and made the best of what she had and maintained a loving and caring attitude and outlook on life.
A devout Christian, Bonnie’s love for the Lord was the foundation of everything she did. Her faith wasn’t just something she spoke about — it was how she lived.
Her greatest joy was her family.
Her parents, her siblings the late Lendon Luke, the late Bill Luke, Bob Luke and Jackie Sheffield. As a devoted wife to George Russell and a loving mother to Kathryn Thrasher (Tatum), Gary Bryan (Shanaka), Jimmy Bryan (Heidi), and Don Bryan, she loved without limits. Her children were her pride, and her home was always open. Nothing made her happier than gathering everyone around her home, sharing stories, and making memories.
Bonnie had a heart for people and for God’s creation. She found peace in nature, the outdoors and music. She had a zest for life that was simple, genuine, and contagious. If someone was in need, Bonnie was willing to be there with her comforting presence.
She leaves behind a beautiful legacy carried on by her husband George; her four children; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren; and by everyone whose life she touched with her compassion and unwavering love.
Bonnie loved the Lord above all, and she loved her family fiercely. We will carry her gentle spirit, her prayers, and her example with us always.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Gray officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
