Brenda Gail Hancock Atwell, 65, of the West Berrien Community, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday March 9, 2024. A lifelong resident of Berrien Co, she was born October 28, 1958. She worked on the family farm until graduating in1976 from Berrien High School, where she served as a member of the Berrien Rebel Regiment. She always said she was a farm girl at heart. She attended Moultrie Technical School's School of Nursing where she graduated with her certificate and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Spending 42 years serving and helping others as a nurse with 29 of those years working as an Operating Room Surgical Scrub Nurse at Tift Regional Medical Center. She also spent 13 years as a Case Manager for Diversified Resources, Inc. in Tifton assisting the senior citizen population in a 4 county area.

Brenda was always giving of herself to help others. Brenda loved spending time with her family and working outdoors performing yard work, which she said was her therapy. She was a longtime member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church and loved her God.

Brenda is survived by her husband of 41 years, Shane Atwell of West Berrien, 3 sons; Greg (Toni) Atwell of Hauptsthul, Germany, Gary (Rachel) Atwell of Augusta, GA and Grant Atwell of West Berrien; 6 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lola Hancock of West Berrien; nephews and nieces Bobby (Brooke) Hancock and John (Courtney) Hancock of West Berrien plus several cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Tallie Coy Hancock, mother, Melba Godwin Hancock and brother, Bobby Dale Hancock.

Funeral Services will be held Friday March 15, 2024 at 11 AM in the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lenox with the Rev. Gerald Mallard and Steve Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
