Obituary

Clarice Cook Hamilton Gilliard, 86, of Nashville, died Monday August 20, 2018 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 10, 1932 in Coffee County to the late Elijay and Rebecca Carver Cook.  She was a member of Nashville First Baptist Church and attended Flat Creek Baptist Church of Nashville. Along with her husband, S. T. Hamilton, she owned and operated The Berrien Press for many years.  After the passing of her husband, she continued to edit and oversee the content of The Berrien Press , along with her daughter, Barbara Boyd, and son-in-law, Donald Boyd.  She built a strong relationship with all the area businesses and continually searched for ways to promote both the businesses and the members of the local community, particularly the elderly. She was also a faithful member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2978 Ladies Auxiliary. She is the widow of S. T. Hamilton and Hubert Gilliard and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Speckert and Ann Lyons; two granddaughters-in-law: Billie Joe Boyd and Kim Boyd.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Donald Boyd, three grandchildren, Brent Boyd, Austin (Dorrie Wilson) Boyd, and Jessica (Lee Crews) Boyd, all of Nashville; two sisters, Janice Sayyah and Donna Nelms, both of Nashville; 10 great-grandchildren, Dylan Boyd, Cameron Boyd, Wyatt Boyd, Kyler Boyd, Kenny Wilson, Jr, Krista Kay Wilson, Kiersten Wilson, Madison Crews, Megan Crews and Morgan Crews; several nieces and nephews.

The family will honor her request for cremation.  A memorial service will be held Friday August 24 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mickey Lindsey officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
