Ernest Claude Sumner, 87, of the West Berrien Community, died Friday September 19, 2014 at his residence.
He was born December 8, 1926 in Berrien County, to the late Morris Columbus Sumner and the late Eliza Jane Wilson Sumner. He was a retired farmer and member of the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a former Berrien County Commissioner and veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his wife: Florence Lott Sumner of West Berrien; 3 daughters: Peggy (Wayne) Ellis of Lenox, Danita (Dane) Perkins of Nashville and Angie (Phillip) Holbrook of West Berrien; 2 brothers: Elmer "Doc" Sumner of West Berrien and Billy Sumner of Fernandina Beach, FL; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday September 22, 2014 at 3 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Potts, Rev. Mike Bennett and Rev. Stan Nix officiating. Interment will follow in the Nashville Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Sunday from 6 to 8 PM.
