Freda Carter, 80, of Athens, formerly of the West Berrien Community, died Thursday December 12, 1944 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.

She was born September 12, 1944 in Cook County to the late Leonard Rutland and the late Vonell Brumblow Rutland. She was a billing clerk for Tift Regional Medical Center, an avid reader, fantastic southern cook and loved watching Georgia football with her family. She attended the Victory Baptist Church in Athens and was the widow of Walter Spinks "Sonny" Carter who died in 2015.

She is survived by her daughter: Nikki (Noah) Coker of Athens; grandson: Isaac Noah Coker of Athens; 2 brothers: Larry (Jean) Rutland of Lenox and Jerry (Shirley) Rutland of Lenox; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held Monday December 16, 2024 at 11 AM in the Pine Grove cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Mallard officiating. Visitation is Monday one hour prior to the service in the cemetery.
