Gary Wayne Nelms, 66, of Nashville, died Saturday October 4, 2014 at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, FL.
He was born March 2, 1948 in Berrien County to the late Daniel Monroe Nelms and Sara Lucile Durrance. He was a retired city route carrier for the United States Postal Service and a member of the Nashville First Baptist Church. He was a Master Mason and Past Worshipful Master in Duncan Lodge 234 F&AM. He was a member and Past Commander of the Nashville Post VFW and was currently serving as VFW District Commander. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, with service in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by a brother: Mickey Nelms.
He is survived by his wife: Susan Guest Nelms of Nashville; 2 daughters: Joy (Barry) Mansell of Woodstock and Ashley (Johnathan) Schleller of Nashville; mother: Lucile Sellars of Nashville; brother: Gene Nelms of Memphis, TN; sister: Teresa Miller of Memphis, TN; 6 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 8, 2014 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM.
