Georgia Clara Gaskins, 78, of Alapaha died Thursday, November 14, 2013 in the Irwin County Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born January 27, 1935 in Atkinson County to the late Allie Thomas and and the late Minnie Floyd Steverson. She was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church. She lived in Jacksonville, Fl. for over forty years and was a faithful member of Northview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by son, Albert Thomas (Buddy) Gaskins and two brothers; Thomas Steverson and Jimmy Steverson.
Mrs. Gaskins is survived by her husband of 58 years, Albert Harvey Gaskins: two daughters: Brenda Gaskins Thornton (Dannie) of Jacksonville,Fl, Sandra Gaskins Starling (Jimmy) of Starke, Fl; one son: Stephen Gaskins (Yvette) of Cleveland, Tn.; eight grandchildren: Joseph Gaskins (Brandy), Melissa Thornton Hott (Joe), Crystal Thornton, Dannie Thornton Jr., Jennifer Starling, Brennan Starling, Austin Gaskins, and Spencer Gaskins and six great grandchildren; one sister, Nellie Smith of Callahan, Fl.; three brothers: Billie Steverson (Louise) of Alapaha, Ga., Lamar Steverson (Gail) of Hilliard, Fl., and Ray Steverson (Gloria) of Willacoochee, Ga.; three sister-in-laws: Marie Steverson Mathis of Nashville, Ga., Vanita Steverson of Nashville, Ga., and Gloria Gaskins Ferrell (Mal) of Peachtree City, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was known by many names to those who loved her. She was named Georgia but most knew her as Clara. She was a loving sister, aunt, and wife. She was a friend with a sweet disposition and ready smile. She was a wonderful mama and she loved being a Meme.
Funeral services will be held Sunday November 17, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Stone and Mr. Joe Hott officiating. Interment will be in St. Luke Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 6-8.
