Obituary

Gwynette Barber Powell, 83, of Nashville, died Saturday May 5, 2018 in the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia.

She was born January 10, 1935 in Berrien County to the late Willie Alvin Barber and the late Evie Vickery Barber. She was a retired CNA with Home Health and Ameri-Care. She was a  member of the Nashville First Baptist Church and the widow of Thomas William "Bill" Powell III who died in 1981. She was also preceded in death by a sister: Geraldine Eason; step son and step daughter-in-law: Tim and Maureen Powell; granddaughter: Linda Powell.

She is survived by her daughter: Betsy (Michael) Purvis of Alapaha; son: Flynt Powell of Nashville; step son: David (Linda) Powell of Homerville; brother: Franklin Tyson of Albany; 7 grandchildren: Jake (Tara) Purvis of Valdosta, Justin (Lindsey) Purvis of Valdosta, Carri (William) Heinz of Macon, Teresa Padgett, Amy Palmer, John Powell and Tim Powell all of Homerville; 4 great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday May 8, 2018 at 11 AM in Westview Cemetery with the Rev. Mickey Lindsey officiating. The family will receive friends in the cemetery after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice of Tift Area or the church of your choosing.
