Obituary

Helen Cook Burdette, 77, of Nashville, was called home to be with the Lord, Friday September 14, 2018 at her residence.

She was born October 19, 1940 in Berrien County to the late William Harrison Cook and the late Minnie Ola Smith Cook. She attended ABAC and became a Registered Nurse in 1981. Helen loved her job and retired after serving the local community at Berrien County Hospital for 23 years. She was a member of Hope Baptist Church and attended the Nashville Church of God.

Helen enjoyed the outdoors and spent many years with her family fishing, hunting and camping. She was famous for her made-from-scratch biscuits, baked hams and cheesy, garlic, mashed potatoes.

She was the widow of Roger Landers Burdette, Sr., who passed away in 2010, after 53 years of marriage.  Helen was also preceded in death by 3 brothers: Curtis Cook, Carley Cook and Daniel Webster Cook.

She is survived by one daughter: Mitzi Sumner, husband Michael; 2 sons: Roger L.Burdette, Jr.,  wife Karima and Harris Burdette, wife Patricia; 10 grandchildren: Amanda Smith, John Sumner, Patrick Sumner, Roberta (Bobbie) Ramos, R.L. Burdette, III, Zecharia Burdette, Priscilla Burdette, Karris Burdette, Stephanie Kimbrel and Isabella Burdette; 5 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Myrtice Caldwell, Inez Gaskins and Myrtle Lee Grimsley, husband Andrew; sister-in-law: Loretta Bennett, husband Lamar; brother-in-law: Dale Sumner, wife Betty.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Betty Sumner, loving sister-in-law, Dr. Wheeler, the staff from Amedisys Home Health, Bethany Hospice and most especially, all those who prayed diligently for Helen and loved ones.

Funeral services will be Monday September 17, 2018 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Walker and Rev. Ray Calvin officiating.  Interment will follow in Nashville Memorial Gardens.  Visitation is Sunday from 7 to 9 PM.
