Obituary

Homer Whelchel, 66, of Nashville died peacefully on September 2, 2016 at the Langdale Hospice House.

Homer was born January 7, 1950 in Macon to the late Carl Davis Whelchel, Jr. and the late Wynelle Lifsey Whelchel. He grew up on the family farm in Hatley, GA and graduated from Crisp County High School in 1968 and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy in 1974. He married Barbara Land Whelchel on March 18, 1973. He practiced pharmacy in Albany and Cordele before moving to Nashville in 1979 where he owned and operated a successful pharmacy/home health business for more than 30 years. He was an active member of the Nashville United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities, including Chairman of the Administration Board and most recently as Church treasurer. He loved the beach, sailing, Georgia Bulldog football, serving the church body and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by a brother: Carl Davis Whelchel, III.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Barbara Land Whelchel of Nashville; son: Noel (Amanda) Whelchel of Roswell; daughter: Holly (Adam) Alford of Dallas, TX; 2 sisters: Tricia (Marion) Bolin of Nashville, TN and Glenda Darley of Pine Mountain; sister-in-law: Muriel Whelchel; 3 grandsons: Nathan Whelchel, A.J. Alford and Matthew Alford; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 6, 2016 at 3 PM in the Nashville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Addington and Mr. Thomas Clayton officiating. Visitation will be at the church in Garner Hall one hour prior to the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Homer's life. Memorials may be given to Nashville United Methodist Church or Hospice of South Georgia.
