Obituary

Huey L. Hancock departed this life on Tuesday November 9, 2021, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Huey was a devoted provider to his family with 38 years of dedicated employment at Chaparral Boats, Inc., in Nashville, Georgia. Though heartbroken at his loss, his wife of 42 years, Teresa Rowe Hancock and two daughters: Traci (Erik) Zajdel of Valdosta and Heather (Ryan) Stone of Alapaha will continue honoring his life and memory.

Huey was born August 23, 1959, to the late Hubert "Huston" Hancock and Grace Soles Hancock. He has two sisters: Karen Kent of Alapaha and Teresa Haynes of Fitzgerald. Huey is also the proud "Papa" of four grandchildren whom he adored: Bradan Ferris, Gavin Ferris, Eli Stone and Cassie Stone. He never missed an opportunity to give them anything they ever wanted or asked for and it was obvious that he was proud of each of them. He is also survived by a number of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and family by marriage, as well as his chosen family of close friends.

Huey held very distinct values – he despised the phrase "I can't" and valued persistence and loyalty above all things. He did not know the word "quit". He coached softball while his daughters were very young and enjoyed being part of their extracurricular activities. Through this and many other valuable life lessons, he instilled a boundless work ethic and drive in his daughters that will become part of his legacy. He enjoyed taking photos, being "Santa" at Christmas time, sitting in the rocking chair talking with loved ones and soaking in each moment with the ones he loved. Huey was often a quiet presence but his absence will be extremely loud.

Funeral services will be held Saturday November 13, 2021 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Dr. William Hancock and Rev. Russell Joiner officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 6 to 8 PM.
