Obituary

Mattie Ida Luke, 92, of Nashville, died Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

She was born September 8, 1933, in Berrien County to the late John Owen Stephens and the late Stella Railey Stephens. She was a homemaker and retired bookkeeper with Berrien Cabinets. She loved yard work, caring for all her extended family and was not a lady of idleness. She was the widow of Charles Luke, Jr. who died in 2021 and was also preceded in death by a grandson: Stephen Navarro; 2 brothers J.O. Stephens and Buddy Stephens; 2 sisters: Lucille Yeomans and Mamie Lee Barfield.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Barbara (Jim) Harris of Winston, NM and Kim (Evan) Carter of Adel; son: Kevin (Gloria) Luke of Gainesville; sister: Zelma Ellis of Nashville; 6 grandchildren: Marcey Navarro, Jordan Luke, Justin (Hannah) Luke, Jared (Anna) Luke, Ethan (Alli Edwards) Carter and Payton (Kate) Carter; 3 great-grandchildren: Jasmine Benardo, Joseph Benardo and Noah Luke.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 12, 2026, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Rev. Freddie Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Paron cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
