Obituary

Mary Ina Jones Hendley, age 100, formerly of Nashville, died Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Chapman Health Care Center in Alexander City, AL near the home of her daughter, Barbara Reid.

She was born November 25, 1921 in Berrien County to the late Fisher Jones and the late Mary Rachel Griffin Jones. Ina graduated from Nashville High School in 1938 as Valedictorian of her class. She then married her local sweetheart, Navy man, Willard Hendley who lived in the Poplar Springs area of Berrien County. She traveled to several ports while Willard was in the Navy, including Norfolk, Va. New York City, San Diego, Ca and Key West, Fla. As a war bride Ina worked temporarily at several of those locations. After WW II she and Willard settled in Nashville where Ina was a young homemaker, an Avon Representative and then bookkeeper at Boyett Sprayer, Inc. Later she became an Accountant Technician at Moody AFB. Ina took the opportunity to enroll in off-campus classes at Moody AFB and earned her BS degree in Business Administration from Troy University. She then enrolled in night classes to earn her Master's in Business Science from Valdosta State. With her advanced degrees she accepted a position as Payroll Supervisor at Patrick AFB in Satellite, Fla and held that position until her retirement.  She was the second of her siblings to earn a college degree.

While living in Nashville, Ina was active in the Nashville First Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher, Training Union Director, WMU member, a faithful choir member and was a member of the Eastern Star. She continued her involvement in her church away from home while living in Satellite Beach, and Oviedo, FL. volunteering through her church in Oviedo, FL as an ELS instructor and singing in the choir. She made several church mission trips to New York's Staten Island while attending the Oviedo Baptist church. After Willard's death she enrolled as a student in the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and completed all off-campus course work before moving home to Nashville. Upon returning to Nashville, Ina stayed busy volunteering with the Pink Ladies Society, other church and local charitable organizations.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Willard Hendley, who died in 2000 and was also preceded in death by 6 brothers and 5 sisters. Billy Jones, Robert Jones, Gene Jones, Charles Jones, Randel Jones, Carlton Jones, Kate Weeks, Letha Marie Jones, Rachael Jacobs, and Mamie Lee Moore.

Ina is survived by two daughters: Jeanie (Tom) Abney and Barbara (Doug) Reid.  Three grandsons: Brian (Nesa) Godbee, Dan (Dallas) Reid, and Stephen (Kate) Reid. Four great grandsons: Jordan Godbee, Holdon, Hudson and Hendley Reid and great granddaughter, Hannah Abney. She has two surviving sisters and one brother, Martha Hayes, Marjorie Ann (Gary) Snoderly and William Jones. Ina was aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday September 19, 2022 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview cemetery. Visitation is Monday one hour prior to the service. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or to the First Baptist Church, Nashville, Ga.
