He attended Emory University and served in the United States Navy. Following his service discharge, he entered the University of Oklahoma. In 1957, he graduated magna cum laude and due to his achievements as an undergrad, received a fellowship to get his master's degree in geology. Jack demonstrated love, compassion and generosity.
He had a natural skill that enabled him to tap the rich veins of oil. After eight years with EXXON, he became a self-employed geologist. He was an independent oilman who had the good fortune to also find natural gas. In 1981, he was the featured oilman in the book Fast Track by Nicholas Lemann. The author emphasized that America needs more individuals with entrepreneurship like that of Jack Jones.
