Janice Powell, 60, of Adel died Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Emory University Hospital.

She was born October 22, 1964, in Cook County to the late Mack Summerlin and Betty Jo Royals Summerlin. She worked as a paraprofessional with the Berrien County Board of Education for 19 years at the middle school and primary school. She loved her family, watching her sons grow up, cooking shows and reading. She attended the Nashville Church of God and was excited about the birth of her grandchild in August. She was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren: Birkley Raine Powell and Briggs Millard Powell; brother-in-law: Don McGee.

She is survived by her husband: Stephen Powell of Adel; 3 sons: Dustin (LeeAnna) Powell of Nashville, Tyler Powell of Valdosta and Stephen (Leila) Powell of Adel; mother: Betty Jo Royals Summerlin of Nashville; 3 sisters: Shelia McGee of Nashville, Joyce (Wally) Strom of Nashville and Cheryl (Keith) Stone of Nashville; brother: Neal (Melanie) Summerlin of Willacoochee; mother-in-law: Mary Powell of Nashville; sister-in-law: Paige Martins of Albany; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11 AM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Rev. Gary James and Rev. Clarence Luke officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
