Obituary

Janice Crosby Short, 87, of Valdosta, died Monday December 30, 2024 at her residence.

She was born January 29, 1937 in Colquitt County to the late Wilbur Earnest Crosby and the late Alma Liles Crosby. She was a homemaker, the widow of Clyde Short who died in 2022 and was also preceded in death by 2 daughters: Joni Futrill and Jill Burkett; 4 sisters: Marie Price, Wilma Sharps, Laverne Norton and Martyle Barwick.

Our mother, Janice Short, was one of the most beautiful people we have ever known, and she will be missed dearly.  Her entire life was centered on Christ, her Savior.  She immersed herself and had an unquenchable desire for God's Word.  She has written hundreds of beautiful poems expressing her love for God.  Her life was Christ-like, possessing all of the fruits of the Spirit:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  She always considered others before herself.  She was defined by love and selflessness.  For her, treasures were not something that money could buy.  She was content with having honest and loving relationships with others.  An inspirational walk in nature, where she might find a beautiful fall leaf, or listen to the sound of a crystal stream, flowing against the rock.  Now she is with her precious Savior, now she is home...  Love you mom...

She is survived by her daughter: Juli (Jim) Maddux of Albany; son: Jeff Short of Valdosta; a sister Jean (Jerry) Miller of Moultrie; 5 grandchildren: Walker Mobley, Lauren (Louisa) Doyle, Jacob Burkett, Hannah Burkett and Rebecca Burkett; 2 great grandchildren: Dakota Shane Thompson and Alora Jill Burkett; several nieces and nephews.
