Dr. Jay Cecil Surratt, 78, of Nashville died Thursday October 10, 2013 in the Langdale Hospice House.
He was born February 5, 1935 in Stone, KY to the late Cecil McKinley Surratt and the late Mildred Louise Curry. He was a retired physician, a 50 year Mason, member of Nashville United Methodist Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Army and Navy. He was preceded in death by a sister: Patricia Bielski.
He is survived by his wife: Sarah Caroline Robertson Surratt of Nashville; daughter: Anna (Tommy) Fussell of Eielson AFB, Alaska; 3 sons: Gordon Jay (Kimberly) Surratt of Denton Texas, Gregory David (Carly) Surratt of Watkinsville, and Grant Surratt of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 6 grandchildren, 2 sisters: Ann Freeman of Dallas, TX and Rose Grassel of Fowlerville, MI; 2 brothers-in-law: David Robertson of Apalachin, N.Y. and Joe Roberston of Bentonville, AR.
The family has honored his request for cremation. A memorial service will be held Monday October 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Nashville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Finn officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Nashville United Methodist Church, Langdale Hospice House or church of choice.
