Jeffery Francis Schultz, of Brighton passed away November 9, 2024 at the age of 73.

Jeff was born and raised in Detroit to a hard-working family. He loved sports and had a passion for baseball. A sport in which he became a very good pitcher in the local area. Though not one to speak of his remarkable success, he was recognized by many in the community who knew his name.

He married the love of his life, Valerie, just out of high school and together they started their family. Two sons, who were both active in sports. He not only supported their efforts but also taught, coached, and cheered them on from youth sports all the way through their move to college athletics. He never stopped acting as father, coach, and fan. He was always very proud.

He became a grandfather (Papa) in 1998 to Abby, Ashley, Jenna, and Nathan, all two years apart, respectively. He and Valerie were continuously involved in each of these new additions. Together, they never turned down opportunities to spend time with their grandchildren. They attended every school function, dance recital, sporting event, birthday, holiday, and any day they had the chance to be with them. At any moment, on any day, they would watch, pick up, and care for their grandchildren. There are numerous tales shared by these kids about what Papa would order at restaurants and how he would help with schoolwork, known now as Papa school.

He adored his wife. Together they raised a wonderful family with an endless supply of love and togetherness. Their relationship worked seamlessly with the primary focus of family first. The family always ate dinner at the kitchen table and waited for all to be present. This was always a place of open forum for the week's planning and a place for open discussion. They were ever-present with their children and grandchildren's' activities. Together they ALWAYS put family first with endless love and support.

You were kind, gentle, fun loving and understanding. We all love and miss you. Your legacy will forever live on in all of us!

Jeffery is survived by his wife his 55 years, Valerie Schultz; children, Jeffery (Angela) Schultz, Matthew (Beverly) Schultz; grandchildren, Abigail Schultz, Ashley Schultz, Jenna Schultz, Nathan Schultz; aunt, Mitzi Haley; sister in law, Tina (John) Busby, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Jeffery is preceded in death by his parents, George and Betty Schultz; siblings, Jack, George, Sharon, Jim, and Joey.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday November 21, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Empire Cemetery in Lakeland, Ga.

Family and friends are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Jeffery's name.
