Obituary

James Edwin "Jim" Baker, 81, of West Berrien Community, died Thursday February 29, 2024 at the Southwell Health and Rahabilation Center in Adel.

He was born December 21, 1942 in Oil City, PA to the late Art Baker and the late Edith McKean. He worked for 2 years as an air traffic controller and retired as a telecommunications specialist with AT&T and ADC. He volunteered with the Berrien County Board of Education, Berrien County Airport Authority and was instrumental in the beginning of the West Berrien Fire Dept. He was an Air Force veteran with service during the Cuban Crisis and the Vietnam War and was a member of Vickers Church. He was preceded in death by his wife: Betty Ann Parker Baker who died in 2021; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

He is survived by his daughter: Julie (Col. Charles) Tomko of West Berrien; son: Col. James W. (Diane) Baker of Tampa, FL; 4 grandchildren: Brian, Ryan, Erica and Tyler.

A private graveside funeral service will be held Monday March 4, 2024 in the Vickers Cemetery with the Rev. Landon Albertson officiating.
