James Harvey "Jimmy" Griner, 84, of the West Berrien Community, died Tuesday July 5, 2022 in the Tift Regional Medical Center.
He was born August 17, 1937 in West Berrien to the late Osborne Griner and the late Rebecca Julia McMillan Griner. He retired from ABAC after 22 years as a professor of physics and was a former director with Colquitt EMC with 29 years of service. He also taught agriculture and chemistry at Berrien High School, Tift High School and science at Middle Georgia College. He was a founding member of the West Berrien Fire Department, member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church and owned Griner Manufacturing, a producer for farming and agricultural equipment.
He is survived by his wife: Suzanne Hester Griner of West Berrien; 2 daughters: DeeDee (Carl) Nichols of West Berrien and LeAnn (Brent) Mathis of Elko; 2 sons: Jim Griner of Oberlin, OH and Ben (Rhonda) Griner of West Berrien; sister: Shelva (Phil) Gresham of Albany; 9 grandchildren: Gage Nichols, Luke Nichols, Levi Griner, Owen Nichols, Kaylee Griner, Mia Mathis, Miley Mathis, Brynlee Griner and Piper Mathis; nephew: Matthew Gresham and family.
Funeral services will be held Friday July 8, 2022 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Elder Jim Sandlin and Elder Dwight Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakey Grove cemetery. Visitation is Friday one hour prior to the service. Members of the West Berrien Fire Department will serve as active and honorary pallbearers.
