John Raleigh Woodrum, Jr. 88, of Nashville, died Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at SGMC in Valdosta.

He was born October 13, 1937, in Washington, DC to the late John Raleigh Woodrum and the late Annie Laurie Johnson Woodrum. He was a retired electrical engineer with TXU in Dallas, TX for 30 years and also worked at JEA in Jacksonville, FL. He would speak of his days with childhood days growing up in Jacksonville with friend Hoyt Wayne Axton. He was a racing Quater horse trainer and breeder winning many races, futurity winnings along with his favorite race horse “Some Water Bug” traveling all over the USA. One of his trained horses won third in the world in Halter “First Position” an Appaloosa. He was avid supporter of Bird sanctuary and rehabilitation being a previous board Member in Hickory Creek, Texas supporting wildlife conservation and protection. He has a massive collection of Lionel trains some dating back 90 plus years old. He was a Corvette car enthusiast, his blue and white Tommy Morrison Snake Skinner corvette is currently at the Morrison’s Hall of Fame MY Garage Museum in Effingham, Illinois. He has owned over 50 plus different corvettes in his lifetime. But pride and joy now His C5 corvette nicknamed “Oprah” was his current passion and he was looking forward to updating and restoring it with his grandchildren Alexis and Jason Jr. He enjoyed fishing, had many boats, the faster they were the better. He was never a stranger to anyone. It was rare to see him without a cowboy hat, boots and buckle. He loved his horses, corvettes, birds and most of all his beloved pet and best friend Tasha. He served in the United States Navy, where he boxed, told stories of his golden gloves days and was a member of the Elks’ Lodge. He was a Christian and was saved by Christ and stated when his time came, he was going to paradise. He is preceded in death by 3 sons: John Woodrum, Scott Woodrum and Jack Woodrum; 2 brothers: Gary Woodrum and Ronnie Woodrum.

He is survived by 5 daughters: Christina Broker of Nashville, Candy Gray of Hiawassee, Johnette Wallace of Jacksonville, FL, Wendy Rhoden of Jacksonville, FL and Amy Harden of Ocala, FL; 2 sons: Kent Woodrum of Jacksonville, FL and Wayne Woodrum of Hixson, TN; brother: Larry Woodrum of Jacksonville, FL; 24 grandchildren, over 40 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; special dog: Tasha.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 4 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home.
