Obituary

Johnny Ebb Walker, 67, of Nashville, GA passed away at home, surrounded by his family on August 8, 2019 following a long battle with cancer.

He was born June 17, 1952 in Hahira, GA to the late Isbon and Victoria (Hunt) Walker. He lived in Nashville most of his life, graduating from Berrien County High School in 1970.

Johnny was truly a jack of all trades. His early years were spent working as a field hand then he moved on to loading and driving trucks for local tobacco warehouses as a teenager. After high school he spent 10 years working with the Georgia Forestry Commission. Following that he farmed and ran a hay baling business. He was also a logger, owned his own sawmill, and built various hand crafted furniture items. His occupations reflected both his love of nature and building things with his hands.

He loved to fish and hunt. Maybe the only thing that excited him more than a good day of fishing in the rivers of South Georgia would have been the opening day of quail and dove season every fall. He spent a lot of time raising and training bird dogs, and he loved to watch them point and flush a covey of birds. In later years he spent more and more time with his family - teaching and sharing his love of vegetable gardening, caring for fruit trees, grapevines, and flowers.

Johnny grew up playing baseball and passed on his love of the game to many kids as he and his wife Heather spent several years volunteering as softball coaches for the Berrien County Recreation Department. Not only was he able to teach the fundamentals of the game, he also passed on valuable life lessons - always give your best effort and show good sportsmanship. He leaves behind his wife and best friend for 48 years, Heather (Harrell) Walker, 3 daughters: Martie Knowles (Richard) of Nashville, Katie Edwards (Jason) of Ellabell, Yancie Zurn (Michael) of Norcross, 2 sisters: Dixie Yarbrough (Kenny) of Crosland, GA and Susan Luke (Sonny) of West Berrien, 7 grandchildren: John, Reed, Sara, Morgan, Rosie, Eli, and John Lawrence, 1 great-grandchild: Carter. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by two brothers: David Walker in 1949 and Danny Walker in 2018.

Funeral services will be held Sunday August 11, 2019 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Potts and Mr. Michael Spikes officiating.  Interment will follow in Nashville Memorial Gardens.  Visitation is Saturday 6-8.
