Obituary

Sergeant Jonathan Browning passed away on February 4th, 2017 at the age of 44 in Columbus, GA.

SGT Jonathan H. Browning was born in Nashville, GA on June 14th, 1972 to Earl and JoAnn Browning. He enlisted in the Army on May 9th, 2003 at the age of 30 and served in numerous units in the continental United States and abroad, including two tours to Iraq and one to Afghanistan.

SGT. Browning served as a 19D Calvary Scout in various units and in various positions including as Section Leader in Alpha Troop, 2nd Squadron, 16th Calvary Regiment at Fort Benning, GA; Section Leader in Echo Troop, 1st Squadron, 16th Calvary Regiment at Fort Benning, GA; Gunner and Assistant TC in Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, at Fort Carson, CO and at Fort Hood, TX before the regiment relocated to Colorado.

SGT Browning's military education includes Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, M1A2 System Enhanced Package (SEP) Tank Operations Course and Combat Lifesaver Course.

SGT Browning's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal- second award, Army Achievement Medal - third award, Army Good Conduct Medal - fourth award, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal - second award, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Oversees Service Ribbon, Certificate of Achievement - fourth award, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver - Wheeled Vehicles, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver - Tracked Vehicles, Marksmanship Qualification Badge - Expert with Rifle and the Combat Action Badge.

Sgt Browning is survived by his wife: Cynthia Ann Browning of Ft. Benning; son: Logan Browning of Nashville; daughter: Harley Browning of Hazelhurst; parents: Earl Wayne and JoAnn Browning of Nashville; 2 brothers: Chad Browning and Slade Browning both of Nashville; and sister, JoAnna Browning of Orlando, FL; his English Bulldog: Tank; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents: J.R. & Pearl Swain; paternal grandparents: Lucious & Leona Browning; the mother of his children, Jessica Yuchnitz who died in August 2016.

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 11, 2017 at 3 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Ft. Benning Army Chaplain, Rev. Daniel Morris, Rev. Robert Wigley, and Capt. Patrick J. Connor officiating. Interment will follow in Poplar Springs Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Saturday from 1-3 PM.
