Obituary

Joyce Hilda Whiddon Butler, 91, of Nashville, died Sunday January 8, 2023 at the Fellowship Home in Nashville.

She was born December 9, 1931 in Tifton, GA to the late Major D. Whiddon and the late Ethel McGill Whiddon. She graduated from Tift County High School in 1949 and was a cheerleader. Joyce married, her love, R.N. "Buck" Butler on August 4, 1950. She was a homemaker and faithfully followed her husband to numerous towns with the Georgia Power Co. She worked at the Blackshear Times Newspaper, Standard Container Co. office in Homerville, John Chambless Ford and the United Banking Co. in Nashville where she retired in 1987. She enjoyed playing golf and fishing with Buck. In retirement years, she and Buck were avid campers, loving Lake Blackshear. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years who died in 2009; a grandson: Daniel Butler and 3 brothers: Heyward, Ordway and Austin Whiddon. Joyce was a true Christian lady and attended Nashville First Baptist Church until her health began to fail.

She is survived by 2 sons: Stan (Kathy) Butler of Nashville and Russ (Twila) Butler of Jackson; 3 grandchildren: Kayla (Rob) Osborne, Derek (Kristin) Butler and David Butler (companion: Rachelle Curry); 7 great grandchildren: Tai, Blane, Emory, Tristan, Brennan, William and Brooks.

A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday January 12, 2023 at 2 PM in the Oakridge cemetery in Tifton (Ruth Way Drive). Visitation will be held Thursday in the cemetery thirty minutes prior to the service.
