Obituary

Juanell Nix Haskins, 95, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, surrounded by her beloved children, their spouses, and many grandchildren. She was born on July 19, 1930, at her family home in Berrien County to E.J. and Maxie Nix.

Juanell grew up in the New Lois Community alongside her six siblings in hardworking family farming. As a young girl, she spent many long days helping on the family farm, particularly working in the tobacco fields, where she developed the strong work ethic, humility, and perseverance that would define her life. She remained deeply connected to her roots throughout her life and was later an active member of the New Lois Sewing Club.

She attended New Lois Grade School and graduated from Nashville High School, where she played basketball and was a member of the Glee Club. She continued her education at Abraham Agricultural College, where she played basketball, formed lifelong friendships, and met the love of her life, Donald R. Haskins. Their story began as freshman on a hayride, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love.

Jaunell and Don spent many years in Thomasville raising their 4 children and later delighting in watching their family grow through grandchildren and future generations. Upon retirement, they returned home to Nashville, where they became deeply involved in the First Baptist Church of Nashville.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Juanell faithfully taught Sunday school for many years and lovingly served in the church’s clothes closet and flower ministry. She loved Jesus deeply and made certain that everyone who knew her also knew about her Lord and Savior. She made sure to share Jesus with every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild she had. She was a woman of prayer, worship, compassion, and unwavering faith who led by example for her entire life.

Juanell will be remembered as a quiet, humble, and loving woman with a big heart and a caring soul. Her gentle spirit, steadfast devotion to her family, and deep Christian faith touched countless lives. Her home was always a place of warmth, grace, laughter, good home-cooked food, and love.

Though she will be deeply missed, the legacy of her faith, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald R. Haskins who died in 2009; 2 sisters: Quida (J.W.) Carter and Mary Beth Harris; 3 brothers: Hank Nix, Russell (Ann) Nix and Bobby (Bonnie) Nix; great grandson: Joby White; son-in-law: O.B White; brother-in-law: Donald Powell.

She is survived by her daughter: Pam Haskins White of Cairo; 3 sons: Donald R. (Julie) Haskins, Jr of Thomasville, Gilbert L. (Lisa) Haskins of Pavo and Scott M. (Pam) Haskins of Tifton; sister: Sue Powell of Nashville; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Paul Harris of Robbinsville, NC; numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow in the Westview cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
