Stella Laurene Taylor, 92, of Nashville, passed away on Tuesday June 14, 2022 at Baptist Village Nursing Home in Waycross. She was born February 22, 1930 in Jeff Davis County to the late George Moses Nelms and the late Mattie Persons Nelms.
She retired from Nashville Mills in 1993; was a member of the Ladies Auxillary VFW Post 5978, Nashville Chapter #334, Order of the Eastern Star where she held the station of Ruth for many years and served on several committees. She was a member of the Nashville United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sunday School Class and a member of Circle G. She also attended Flat Creek Church in Nashville and Central Avenue Church of Christ in Valdosta.
Laurene was the devoted wife of Jerry Windell "J.W." Taylor who died in 2000. She was also preceded in death by a son: Flick Windell Taylor who passed away in 2012; daughter-in-law: Cindy Garvin Taylor who passed away in 2011; six brothers: Tecumseh, Will, Rex, John Brooks and Bruce Nelms of Nashville; twin sisters: Ruby Nelms Luke and Louise Nelms Baldree.
She is survived by a son: Billy Carson Taylor and a daughter: Valiree Sophia Lightsey, both of Valdosta; 3 grandchildren: Wendee (Steve) Ackerman of California, April (Chris) Simmons of Nashville and Shanna (Gerry) Barfield of Nashville; 9 great grandchildren: Indiana, Dakota, Camryn, Cannon, Gracie, Savannah, Tucker, Abbie and Taylor.
Laurene's passion in life included spending quality time with all her family. She enjoyed cooking, visiting friends, visiting the sick, working in her garden, volunteering her free time at church or wherever she was needed. She never met a stranger and was always a very loving, kind, and generous lady with a compassionate disposition. She was very much loved and will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the employees and staff at Baptist Village Assisted Living Facility in Lake Park and Baptist Village Nursing Home in Waycross in caring for her emotional and physical needs; for all the love and compassion shown during our loved ones stay at their facility.
Funeral services will be held Thursday June 16, 2022 at 10 AM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mickey Lindsey and Rev. Jimmy Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
