William Lewis Fountain, 94, of Nashville, died Tuesday November 5, 2024 at his residence.
He was born May 7, 1930 in Clinch County to the late Talley Fountain and the late Letha Register Fountain. He was a retired postmaster with the United States Postal Service with 34 years of service. He was a member of New Lois Community Methodist Church since 1948, served in the Air Force and Korean Conflict. He loved his family and was very active in his community. He served on the Berrien County Planning Commission, Zoning Board, Development Authority, Resource Recovery Authority, Chamber of Commerce and Historical Society. He was an active member of the Nashville-Berrien Rotary Club where he served as a past president and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the American Legion, member of the National Association of Postmasters and FFA honorary charter farmer. He served as Sunday Schools superintendent, delegate to the South GA Conference, chairman of the Pastor Parrish committee, chairman of the administrative board, committee for Valdosta district board of superintendency and president Valdosta District UMC Board of Missions. He was an active part of Camp Tygart where he served on the board of trustees, treasurer and past president of executive committee. He was also a member of the Emmaus Community and New Lois Community Club. He was preceded in death by his wife: Orpha Studstill Fountain who died in 2019 and a sister: Louise O'Brien.
He is survived by his son: Bart Fountain of Nashville; daughter: Darla Fountain of Nashville; sister: Edna Fountain McMillan of Enigma; brother: Edward Fountain of Woodstock; 5 grandchildren: Denise (David) Tammen, Rebecca (Michael Hale) Arnold, Rachael Arnold, Rayna Arnold and Max Lewis Fountain; 5 great grandchildren: Tripp Tammen, Noah Fountain, William Arnold, Dustinn Perry and Emmett Hale; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday November 11, 2024 at 11 AM in the New Lois Community Methodist Church with the Rev. Sarah Faulkner and Rev. Don Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 5 to 7 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the New Lois Community Methodist Church.
