Marie Prince, 97, of Nashville, died Tuesday July 17, 2012 in the Tift Regional Medical Center.
She was born November 9, 1914 in Berrien County to the late Alvah William Gaskins and the late Frances Josephine Peeples. She was a homemaker and engaged in farming with Prince Farms for many years. She graduated from Furman University and in her early years she taught school, coached girl's basketball, and won a South Carolina state basketball championship. She was a member of the Nashville First Baptist Church and was the widow of John B. Prince, Jr. who died in 1963. She is also preceded in death by 2 brothers: Robert Gaskins and A.W. Gaskins, Jr.; sister: Ruby Turner.
She is survived by her son: John B. Prince, III of Tifton; 2 daughters: Jo Holt of Adel and Nancy Whidden of Fitzgerald; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday July 20, 2012 at 11 AM in the Nashville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Luke officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Visitation is Friday morning one hour prior to services in the Nashville First Baptist Church fellowship hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials to a church or charity of choosing.
