Mary Erneste "Babba" Houston, 99, of Nashville, died Wednesday May 6, 2015 at her residence.
She was born February 6, 1916 in Wilcox County to the late Markie Edmond Perry and the late Carrie Dorsey Perry. She was a homemaker and the widow of Dr. Norman George Houston, Jr. She was a member of the Nashville United Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees and was the organist and pianist for over 50 years. She was a founding member of the Valdosta Symphony and for many years taught piano and directed choral music in the local school system. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bill Perry and Jim Perry.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Sue (Guy) Tittle of Nashville and Lou (Rick) Putnam of Nashville; son: N.G. "Butch" Houston III of Nashville; sister-in-law: Berrylin Houston of Jacksonville, FL; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday May 8, 2015 at 11 AM in the Nashville United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Bumgardner, Rev. Dwight Bishop and Rev. Russ Elkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Visitation is at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the Nashville First United Methodist Church, the Nashville UMC Church Choir, Valdosta Symphony or to the Carrie Dorsey Perry Memorial Library.
