Mary Alice Murray Whitaker, 81, of Nashville, died Thursday, November 21, 2024, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born February 4, 1943, in Cook County to the late Neal Sellars and the late Mary Susie Bennett Sellars. She was a homemaker and former office manager & nurse for Dr. Henry Richbourg, where she worked for 47 years. She loved her family, adored her grandchildren, and was the best "Nana." She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, shopping, and volunteering anywhere she felt needed. She loved her cat "Patches," and she will be fondly remembered as the matriarch of her family. She was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husbands: Billy Owen Murray who died in 2015 and Samuel Whitaker who died on Friday from the accident. She was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Emersyn Grace Murray.
She is survived by her son: Lyn Murray (Carrie McClellan) of Nashville; sister: Lana (Walter) Wilson of Valdosta; brother: Gene (Marilyn) Sellars of Lakeland; 4 grandsons: Michael (Cassandra) Murray of Alapaha, B.J. (Emily) Murray of Mt. Juliet, TN, Brian Murray (James Thornton) of Raiford, FL and Ben Murray (Samantha Roncalli) of Nashville; 3 great-grandchildren: Kelsey Murray, Kayden Murray, and Merritt Murray; several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the family of Samuel Whitaker who she loved so much.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Bennett and Rev. Mark Swain officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Flat Creek Baptist Church or the Berrien County Humane Society.
