Matthew
Keen
March 2, 1973 – July 12, 2023
Matthew Ryan Keen passed away on July 12, 2023 at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta after a long health struggle. He was 50 years old, born on March 2, 1973 in Tifton to the late William Larry Keen and Susan Callahan Keen.
He had many life experiences as he lived and worked for a number of years in the Boston, MA area at a young age. Later he moved back to South Georgia, living and working in Quitman selling antiques at McCard & Co. He loved flowers, plants and decorated for many local weddings and events. He also assisted his brothers at Keen Realty in special projects and decorating their windows with the changing seasons.
Matthew attended ABAC where he earned an Associates of Arts degree as well as a Bachelor's in Rural Studies at graduation in May of 2011. In following years he worked on a Master's degree at Oregon State University. He was a multitalented artist in sculpture, painting, metal works and various mediums. He attended an art retreat at the Brodie Castle in Scotland in the summer of 2022. Years prior he had toured Amsterdam and parts of Europe with friends. He was previously enrolled as a student and host for a college in Spain. Matthew had a real artistic spirit as he acted and played the piano in theatre, during both high school and as an adult in Valdosta. He always had a kind word for anyone he encountered and will be missed by many family and friends.
He is survived by his mother: Susan Keen, a retired high school teacher and his triplet brothers: William Alan Keen, Jonathan Edgar Keen and Richard James Keen. He leaves behind many special aunts, uncles and cousins.
No formal funeral services will be held but following cremation, at his request, a celebration of life event will be hosted by family. Any memorial contributions may be sent to the Langdale Hospice House or Hospice of South GA at 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602.
