Melba Ruth Hancock, 90, of West Berrien Community, died Wednesday February 2, 2022 in the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia.
She was born January 5, 1932 in Cook County to the late J.C. Godwin and the late Loleeta Hughes Godwin. She was a homemaker, the warehouse manager with Clary's Five and Dime in Adel for many years and a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to mow yards, pick up pecans, known as a wedding planner, decorating for Christmas, putting out ferns and a tremendous cook. She was the widow of Tallie Hancock who died in 2010 and was also preceded in death by a son: Dale Hancock who died in 2021; 2 sisters: Thelma Godwin and Janette Womack.
She is survived by her daughter: Brenda (Shane) Atwell of West Berrien; daughter-in-law: Lola Hancock of West Berrien; 2 sisters: Zel Thorn of Atlanta and Judy Stracke of Adel; brother: Joe Carroll (Marie) Godwin of Lenox; 5 grandsons: Bobby (Brooke) Hancock, John (Courtney) Hancock, Greg (Toni) Atwell, Gary (Rachel) Atwell and Grant Atwell; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday February 5, 2022 at 4 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackie Connell and Mr. Dub Danforth officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday one hour prior to the service.
