Melvin “Mel” John McMillan, age 86, of Orlando, FL, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at AdventHealth Orlando.

Born on November 20, 1939 in Nashville, GA, Melvin was the son of the late Thomas Henry and Lillian May (Jacobs) McMillan. He grew up in Winter Park, FL after the family relocated to Florida in 1940. He moved to Orlando in the mid-1960’s and lived in the College Park area for the past 60 years.

Melvin worked for the General Waterworks Corporation/City of Winter Park Utilities until retirement. During his retirement years, Melvin stayed active with his lawn business and enjoyed interacting with his neighbors.

Outside of his work, Melvin found his greatest happiness in the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing and tending to his garden. Those who knew him will remember his kindness, generosity to those in need, and storytelling of days gone.

Above all, Melvin was devoted to his family. He treasured time spent with extended family, whether by celebrating holidays, attending BBQs and fish fries, or other memorable events throughout the years. His family will remember the countless ways he showed his love and care for them.

A man of faith, Melvin was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where he attended Mass, volunteered as an usher, and was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith was an important part of his life and a source of strength especially in his later years.

Melvin is survived by his twin sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn (McMillan) and John “Johnny” Ferris of Orlando, FL and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his siblings: sisters, Nettie Clare McMillan and Geneva (McMillan) Griffin, and brother, Aron “Mac” McMillan.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 11:00 a.m.–12:45 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4001 Edgewater Dr., Orlando, FL. A rosary will be said at noon, and the Funeral Mass will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Roberto Marquez officiating. Immediately after the Funeral Mass, a reception will be held at Bishop Grady Hall from 2:00-4:00 p.m. for family and friends.

For Georgia family and friends:

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Lovein Funeral Home, 1218 Adel Highway, Nashville, GA.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 9007 U.S. Highway 82, Alapaha, GA, with Rev. Peter Lanshima officiating. Interment will follow at Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 2519 St. Luke Church Rd., Alapaha, GA.

Melvin’s life was defined by faith, family, and friendship. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but the memories he created will remain with those who loved him for generations to come.
