Obituary

Mr. O.Dee Owens, age 94 of Enigma, entered the arms of his Heavenly Father on June 27th, 2026. Born in February of 1932 to Ms. Burcey Owens Clark in Tifton, GA, Mr. O.Dee spent the majority of his life living in different places before returning to South Georgia.

As an Army retiree (with 23 years of service) O.Dee has loved visiting state and national parks as well as other countries with his wife, Jean and two girls, Diane and Teresa. Whether it was a trip to Yellowstone or visiting the salt mine in Berchtesgaden, Germany, he has always made a point of enjoying and experiencing different places and cultures. The states of Virginia and Arizona held a special place in his heart, as they were two of his favorite places he lived.

After his time in the military serving in Korea, France and stateside as a supply sergeant as well as other duties, O.Dee worked for the United States Forest Service in Virginia and the Soil Conservation Service (now the NRCS) in Florida before going on to own his own business as an engineer and surveyor. Among his many titles, he dubbed himself a “hockeyologist” as he designed waste management systems for dairy farms. He loved turkey, quail, and grouse hunting with his friends and loved to stay busy whether with his job, working outside, building and engineering different projects, taking trips or just going to town and sharing a meal.

Mr. O.Dee has been known for many things. His strength, quick wit, math skills, being a great friend and most of all the love he has had and shown for his family and the Lord, all while having a clever joke and making sure to make those around him smile, which he was so good at.

Welcoming him to Heaven is his loving wife (“his one and only,”) Mrs Jean Owens and his daughters, Diane Owens and Teresa Dee Owens (Dover).

Also preceding him are his parents, his baby sister Peggy, brother Earl, sister Louise, his cousin and best friend Llewellyn Roberts and his best friends Sherwood Gustafson and Jerry Mace.

He leaves behind his 3 loving granddaughters that know him as so much more than just their Papa; Ashley Dee, Sarah Jean Swain and Katie Conger; as well as his grandsons- in- law with whom he has held special bonds; Brent Amyette, Andrew Swain and Kyle Conger. 4 great grandchildren (and he would say he did mean great) Leila Dee, Hunter Gibson, Beau A. Owen Swain and Jace Axel Conger. Also surviving are his loving brother, Jimmy Owens of Tyrone, GA and family friends Barbara Mace of Fairfield, VA and Susan Flanders of Madison, FL. as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services for celebrating and honoring O.Dee’s life well lived will be held Friday, July 3, 2026, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Abell officiating. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Pine Ridge Cemetery with full military honors.
