ZIEMER, Paul Douglas – of Davison, Michigan, age 84, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, Michigan 48423; Bishop Christopher Pangerl officiating. Interment in Westview Cemetery, Nashville, Georgia on Saturday October 7, 2023 at 11 AM with visitation in the cemetery thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive visitors 4-7 PM Tuesday, October 3, 2023 and 11 AM-12 PM Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in Paul's memory.
Paul was born in Glendale, California on November 30, 1938, son of the late Gerry and Edith (Ulland) Ziemer. On February 16, 1963, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Solomon, in a sacred ceremony held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints temple in Manti, Utah. Their union was a testament to their enduring love and commitment to one another. Education was a significant part of Paul's life, and he excelled in his academic pursuits. He was a graduate of Brigham Young University with a Master of Science degree in chemistry, demonstrating his dedication to the field of science. Paul's expertise as a research chemist led him to work for various prestigious companies, where he made valuable contributions to the world of chemistry. In the later stages of his career, Paul found joy in sharing his knowledge and passion for chemistry with students. He served as an adjunct professor at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless students who had the privilege of learning from him. Paul was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and his faith was a guiding light throughout his life. He found immense joy in his family, cherishing the moments spent together, and creating lasting memories. One of his greatest passions was fishing, which allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy the serenity of the outdoors. Paul was also deeply involved in scouting, where he mentored and guided young scouts, instilling in them the values of honor, integrity, and perseverance. Additionally, he had a strong interest in family history, diligently researching and preserving the rich tapestry of his family's heritage. Paul will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, a dedicated educator, and a faithful servant of his faith. His legacy of love, knowledge, and service will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Paul is survived by his wife, Phyllis Solomon Ziemer; 5 children, Patrick (Dottie) Ziemer, Michael (Diep) Ziemer, Melinda (Rob) Moore, David (Kristen) Ziemer and Steven (Sherri) Ziemer; 30 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerry and Edith Ziemer; sister, Gretchen (Ronald) Johnston.
