Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Leo Cornelius, a cherished father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. Robert departed this world on February 1, 2025, at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering kindness.

Born on May 28, 1945, in Berrien County, GA, Robert was the son of Clarence Homer Cornelius and Pauline Connell Cornelius. He grew up in a family that valued hard work, compassion, and togetherness. Robert was a devoted brother to his siblings and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. As a father, he was a guiding light to his children, Rhonda, and Scott, always offering wisdom, support, and unconditional love. His grandchildren, Alex, and Addison, brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He retired as store manager in Thomasville for the J.H. Harvey Co., working for over 40 years and was a member of the Assembly of God in Thomasville.

Robert was a man of quiet strength and deep integrity. He dedicated his life to his family, ensuring they felt loved, supported, and cared for. His warm presence, gentle spirit, and unwavering generosity touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, his steadfast nature, and the love he poured into his family.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carolyn Lindsey Cornelius of Thomasville; his children, Rhonda (Todd) Oxford of Dallas and Scott Cornelius of Thomasville; his grandchildren, Alex Carter, and Addison Carter; his brothers, Harry Cornelius, Rudolph Cornelius, Donald Cornelius, and David Cornelius; his sister, Faye Simpson of Jacksonville, FL ; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Homer Cornelius and Pauline Connell Cornelius, and his siblings: Maxine Tatum, Leila Jeffords, Dorothy Giddens, Sue Lasseter, Clarence Cornelius, Jr., Bennie Cornelius, and Earl Cornelius.

A service to honor Robert's life will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 11 AM in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the Long Bridge cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Though Robert is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
