Obituary

Aubrey "Russell" Harper, 74, of Nashville, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

He was born February 15, 1951, in Irwin County to the late Aubrey Lucious Harper and the late Bessie Griffin Harper. He retired from Jacuzzi-Bathcraft Corporation in Valdosta where he worked for 40 years as a mold repairer. He enjoyed keeping his yard in pristine shape and his gardening skills provided fresh vegetables and sweet watermelons for his grandchildren to enjoy. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he worshipped, followed the teachings of Jesus and loved his church family. He was preceded in death by a brother: Emerson Harper.

He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 55 years: Linda Jane Cook Harper of Nashville; 2 sons: Richard Russell "Rusty" (Shannon) Harper of Nashville and Marshall Curtis "Mark" (Charlotte) Harper of Ray City; 4 grandchildren: Rhett Aubrey (Alley) Harper of Nashville, Maggie Marie Cartwright of Tallahassee, FL, Madeline "Maddie" Elizabeth Harper of Nashville, TN and Bryson Cole Harper of Ray City; great grandson: Grant Aubrey Harper; sister: Wanda (Ronnie) Wood of Zephyrhills, FL; 2 brothers: Perry Alton Harper of Nashville and Herman (Diane) Harper of Placerville, CA; special mother-in-law he called his second mother: Dorothy Boyd Cook of Nashville; special in- laws: Teresa and Larry Lancaster, Wayne and Terri Cook, Harrell "Buddy" Cook all of Nashville; special nieces and nephews: Will and Claire Cook, Micki and Dennis Terry, Curtis and Katie Cook, Dane and Sherri Lancaster, Adrian and Jason Baker, Joey Lancaster, Chris Cook, Kim Miller, Donna Smith, Christy Whelan, Chris Harper, Taylor Rutland, Clint Wood, Tammy Harper, Peggy Harper; his daily companion and protector: Bullet; many special cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 24, 2025, at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with his pastor Rev. Stan Stalvey, Rev. Will Cook and eulogies will be given by family members. Interment will follow in the Nashville Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Friday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Music selections are Peace in the Valley, Amazing Grace and Would You Carry Me sung by Rebecca Joiner, Maggie Harper and Micki Terry. Pallbearers will be his 2 grandsons Rhett Harper and Bryson Harper, Joey Lancaster, Dane Lancaster, Shawn Lancaster and Derrick Joiner. Memorials may be sent to Mt. Pleasant Church, P.O. Box 497, Nashville, GA 31639.
