Steve Sumner, 74, of Ray City, died Tuesday October 17, 2023 at his residence.

He was born November 18, 1948 in Cook County to the late Ralph Stephen Sumner and the late Linnie Champion Sumner. He retired as the president and CEO of Thomson Newspaper and was a former Berrien County Commissioner for 8 years. He loved his family, grandchildren, fishing and served in the United States Marines Corps. He was preceded in death by a brother: Carlton Sumner who died on October 14, 2023.

He is survived by his wife: Cheryl Stegall Sumner of Ray City; daughter: Lisa Sumner of Ray City; 2 sons: Mike (Jennifer) Sumner of Hahira and Jason (Kristal) Sumner of Ray City; 2 sisters: Shirley (Ed) Friend of Kennesaw and Margaret Sumner Newman of Tampa, FL; brother: Gene (India) Sumner of St. Marys; sister-in-law: Barbara Sumner of Brunswick; 5 grandchildren: Abigail Sumner, Michael Sumner, Buck Sumner, Madison Sumner and Peyton Sumner.

A memorial service will be held Friday October 20, 2023 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
