Obituary

Barbara "Sue" Hall McClendon, 77, of Brookfield, died Saturday, March 1, 2025, in the Wilson Hospice House in Albany.

Born April 24, 1947, to the late Leroy Higgs Hall and Cora Jackson Hall, Sue grew up on a farm in Alapaha, GA. She learned the value of hard work while working alongside her parents and siblings on their farm. She inherited her father's green thumb and enjoyed cultivating flowers. From her mother, she learned to be an exceptional baker and was known for her delicious cakes, specifically, her chocolate, red velvet, and carrot cakes. However, most requested and never duplicated (even by her sisters) were her famous icebox cookies. She was also a skilled seamstress.

Sue retired from her career of 34 years at the Georgia Department of Transportation in 2006. She was always commended by each of the departments she served in and loved her coworkers.

She loved her family and even though she was quiet, she was described by her siblings and children as the "strong one." She sacrificed often for the well-being of her husband, sons, and grandchildren. She applied what she learned growing up at New Griffin Missionary Baptist Church and became a dedicated teacher, hostess, and choir member of Brookfield Baptist Church. She loved being an active member of WMU and Faithful Ladies Sunday School class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a twin brother, Bobby Drew Hall and a son, Wade Courtney Cribb.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Freddie McClendon (Brookfield); one son Jeffery McClendon & his wife, Amy (Brookfield); 4 grandchildren: Courtney Cribb (Nashville), Casey Cribb (Spokane, Washington), Katie McClendon (Brookfield), Will McClendon (Brookfield); two great-granddaughters Harmony Bass & Delilah Cribb. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Marjorie Brown (Bainbridge), Jerry & Rita Hall (Enigma), Murray Hall (Brookfield), Shirley & Richard Lilly (Leesburg), Vickie & Kenny Stephens (Tifton), and numerous nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 3 PM in the Brookfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Davis and Rev. Gary Cadwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Brogdon cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special gratitude to the staff of Dr. Jose Tongol's office and infusion center at Phoebe Putney for the love and care they gave Sue during the last decade of her life and to the staff of Willson Hospice House for their love and compassion. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Brookfield Baptist Building Fund.
