Thomas “Tom” F. Hancock, III, passed away on June 11, 2026, surrounded by his cherished family. Tom was born on April 13, 1964, in Birmingham, Alabama, and was raised in Berrien County by his maternal grandmother, Mittylene Lewis.
Tom was a masterful storyteller and was known for his witty humor. He is remembered by many for his big grin and endless supply of funny, and often irreverent, jokes. He was also known for his determined work ethic and was employed with Chaparral Boats for twenty-five years.
In his 30’s, Tom bought a drag bike, a decision he later described as one of the most impulsive of his life. In Tom’s words, he “had a ball” racing the bike, which also instilled a love of racing in his children. They would go on to race many seasons together, making countless treasured memories at the racetrack with family and friends.
In more recent years, Tom enjoyed cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, and spending time with family and friends at his home in Ocilla.
Tom is survived by his wife, Tracy, of Ocilla, sister, Robin (Jerry) Sutton of Nashville, daughter Haley (Roman) Bourret of Woodstock, son, Hunter (Meg) Hancock of St. Augustine, Florida, son Hayes (Delaney) Hancock of Nashville, stepson Colby (Kasey) Jones of Tifton, stepson Cully Jones of Ocilla, and CJ Roberts of Nashville, whom he cherished like a son. He is also survived by two grandsons, Breck and Bodie Bourret, and a granddaughter, Austen Hancock. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Karel McMillan Mobley, sister-in-law Leslie (Chris) Young, and brother-in-law Scott Mobley, all of Ocilla.
Tom is preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas Foster Hancock and Mildred Inez Fender Hancock, and James Lonnie and Mittylene Phillips Lewis, his brother, Lewis Hancock, father-in-law, Weyman Mobley, and his beloved childhood caregiver, whom he affectionately called “Flossie.”
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville with Rev. Bob Ellis officiating. Visitation will be held in the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
