Obituary

Vernell Griner, 88, of Alapaha, died Friday July 21, 2023 in the Berrien Nursing Center.

She was born July 10, 1935 in Colquitt County to the late Edward Hodges and the late Eliza Elizabeth Hodges. She was a homemaker and for many years worked at Nashville Textile. She was a member of the Alapaha Baptist Church, loved her family, dancing and talking to everyone. She was the widow of Elmon Kenneth Griner who died in 1986 and was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Melissa Hanson; 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Peggy (Steve) Brown of Alapaha and Sally (Ricky) Tucker of Alapaha; 3 sons: Kenneth Griner of Alapaha, Wayne (Melinda) Griner of Enigma and William (Dawn) Griner of Nashville; 4 grandchildren: Kimberly (Michael) Barnhill of Leesburg, Andrew (Ashlynn) Knight of Enigma, Brittany (Taylor) Horne of Valdosta and Alyssa (Joseph) Hendricks of Enigma; 9  great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday July 24, 2023 at 2 PM in the Alapaha Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Gibbs and Rev. Jeff Abell officiating. Interment will follow in the Rowetown cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
