Obituary

Virginia Kathleen Harris, 98, of Nashville died Monday May 30, 2011 at the Baptist Village in Waycross. She was born February 9, 1913 in Berrien County to the late John D. Hancock and the late Georgia Futch.

She was the wife of John Troy Harris to whom she was married for 53 years until his death on September 24, 1985. She loved her husband and daughters so very much and worked diligently at giving them a good home. She was involved in her church, Nashville Progressive Primitive Baptist, of which she was a charter member along with her husband and 16 other good Christian souls. She remained the oldest and longest living charter member until the church could no longer keep its doors open, which saddened her deeply. She and her sister Oppie Lee Powell continued to attend a church nearby until age limited their traveling. The family is very grateful for the loving care that was given to her and her sister Oppie by Joyce Flanders and Lillian Moore. She is also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Darla Matthews of Waycross and E'Wanna Thompson of Montgomery, Al; 5 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday June 5, 2011 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or make memorial contributions to the Berrien Health Advocacy.
