Obituary

Walter Willard "Bill" Turner, 85, of Nashville died Wednesday May 29, 2019 at The Orchard at Stone Creek.

He was born May 24, 1934 in North Port, AL to the late F. S. Turner and the late Leona Kennedy Turner. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he received a degree in Journalism and played football. He was a retired SSGT from the U.S. Air Force and served in North Africa, Japan, Europe and United States. While serving in the Air Force, he became a heavyweight boxer having a record of 55-0 and 49 KO. He was also the manager at River South  Plantation, a former alderman for the City of Nashville and  a member of Nashville United Methodist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife: Fern Johnson Turner who died in 2015; and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son: Walt (Carmen Booth) Turner of Valdosta; daughter: Dana Turner of Florida; sister: Sarah Turner of Alabama; grandson: James Ashley Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held Sunday June 2, 2019 at 4 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Mr. Tom Thomas, Sr. and Mr. Walt Turner officiating.  Interment with full military honors will follow in Nashville Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Sunday one hour prior to the service.
